NEXT: Replacement for inventory feed.

• Inventory numbers and commands will flow between two legacy systems .
• Although this new implementation uses two different IMS transactions that predate the original transactions and of course talk to a very different backend, I got good code reuse from the original implementation.
• Transaction rate should be 10x greater than current rate.

1999 Notes.

Yes this inventory feed system went into production in 1997. It talks to both an Oracle, and Sybase database. In 1999 it was taken out of service when the inventory system was replace as part of a Y2K effort.

Actually the most dreadful part was reading 12000 line of Fortran code to figure out the logic flow of the old transportation system. All of that disappeared.

Both code bases where folded into one, abstraction and concrete classes provided an image that could work to solve both business problems.
