If response time went over ten seconds during month-end processing, local clients would run down the hall to bug us! We had two occurrences of this... both related to Window NT issues.
Although we don't deliver sub-second response time, we rarely take more than five seconds to complete a round trip transaction. (Delay is NOT in Smalltalk).

This end user behavior was of course due to the stability of the interface and the response time they ultimately enjoyed. Any excessive response time pointed to a serious problem. Thus, their journey to find someone to fix it.
