Past OOPSLA trip reports can be found at Trip Reports I've Written in the past
Note on Nov 5th 2003 this paged was moved to a Wiki so you can edit it there. Please read it over there, this copy is here for historical reasons. http://wiki.cs.uiuc.edu/CampSmalltalk/OOPSLA+2003+Trip+report+Sunday.
Is this my 8th Oopsla here in Anaheim where it's raining ash from the sky? Perhaps, I was asked numerous times here at the show if I was going to write a trip report and thought hard on these requests because the concept of blogging has created much more information streams about events like Oopsla on the internet. I was hoping my need to provide information had been diminished, but because of feedback and email requests I decide to write a somewhat reduced volume of notes about OOPSLA 2003.
It's quite evident that because of the economic downturn, and certainly the fact that ash is falling from the sky that many folks who had planed to attend did not come, or couldn't fly into southern California this week. Many familiar faces are here, some just to attend Camp Smalltalk which isn't a normal camp. Rather a place to come to talk to fellow Smalltalkers, or to see what Smalltalk is about for people who are interested about the Smalltalk revival, or for project collaborators to get together to make decisions about what to do on some Camp Smalltalk project in the future months. Certainly I managed to talk to some of the Squeak guides and push some needed patches further up the change set queue.
Sunday past quite quickly, little progress on any front. Still I managed to talk to an employee from Key Technology about how Smalltalk is dominating the food processing industry.
